Moving back to Eleventy
Back in 2020, I moved the makzan.net from WordPress to Eleventy and hosted on Netlify. Then I moved again to Wordpress and to Vercel. Now, I'm moving makzan.net back to the static repository powered by Eleventy.
The reason:
- Static text files are truely long term.
- I built my first makzan.net website since 2003. But keep moving the hosting and platform means keep losing my essays and resources.
- So, putting them into static text files hosted in a git repository is the long term way.
- Keep as independent as possible.
- Referring to Don’t rely on a single service.
- Using online platform means dependent to the services providers.
- Given the recent conflicts happening in the WordPress community, it shows why keeping independent to services is a good choice.
- There are many static sites generators and frameworks. I choose Eleventy becasue of the mininmal intervention from the site builder. I can keep a human-readable file structure for further processing in case of not using 11ty in the future.
